Jason Druzgal, MD, PhD

Lab Director

Jason received his MD, PhD in neuroscience from the University of Pennsylvania. He did his residency in diagnostic radiology and fellowship in neuroradiology, at the University of Utah. Jason is interested in clinically meaningful application of functional neuroimaging techniques (particularly fMRI) to CNS pathology.

Graduate Students

Jamie Blair

Neuroscience Graduate Student

Jamie Blair is a 3rd year graduate student in the Druzgal Lab. Jamie graduated from the University of Richmond with a BS in Psychology concentrating in neuroscience in 2009. Jamie’s main research project investigates the physiological basis of disease agnostic cognitive impairment. Jamie specializes in analysis of structural MRI images, but his research incorporates elements of rsFMRI and DTI.

Staff

Christina Gancayco, BS

Research Specialist

Christina earned her BS in Biomedical Engineering from Duke University in 2013. As a research specialist she has a hand in most of the lab's current projects; her role typically involves performing data analyses or trying out new preprocessing and analysis methods. Christina enjoys learning to use new software, baking desserts, and volunteering with Computers4Kids.

Undergraduate Students

Guranchal Hayer

Capstone Student

Guranchal is a 4th year undergraduate Biomedical Engineering and Physics double major at UVA. He is the President of the Sikh Students Association at UVa. His role in the lab is to develop a software application that would enhance the usability of the Allen Human Brain atlas.  After graduation, he is going to work for Epic Systems in Madison, Wisconsin.

Robert Hubley

Capstone Student

Robert is a 4th year undergraduate Biomedical Engineering major at UVA. He is an EMT with the Charlottesville-Albemarle Rescue Squad and Solomons Volunteer Rescue Squad & Fire Department. After graduation, he is taking a gap year to work as an Emergency Department Technician before applying to medical school. Over the summer, Robert often travels to Turkey to visit his mother's side of the family.

Sauson Soldozy

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Sauson is a 4th year undergraduate neuroscience major at UVA. He is on the UVA powerlifting team and works as a chemistry tutor and TA. His role in the lab involves processing and analyzing neuroimaging data in order to draw conclusions on mTBI in athletes. His goal is to complete a distinguished majors thesis and attend medical school upon graduation.

Amanda Stanton

Undergraduate Research Assistant

Amanda is a 4th year undergraduate Neuroscience and Government double major at UVA.  She is an EMT with the Charlottesville-Albemarle County Rescue Squad, ULink PeerAdvisor, and volunteers with Hot Shots through Madison House. In the lab she is currently processing and analyzing neuroimaging mTBI data, specifically using machine based learning programs to find differences in the athletic and control populations. After graduating, Amanda hopes to attend medical school.

Nelson Barrientos

Capstone Student

Nelson is a 4th year Biomedical Engineering student at UVA.  He speaks Spanish, he is an EMT, and he likes to play soccer and ping pong. His role in the lab is to create software that will correlate brain genetic data from the Allen Human Brain Atlas with external MRI data. His hope is to go to Medical School.
